Tech Jeff Here:

DirecTv Released their iPad app on Feb. 28th. I must say, this is great app. The app can connect to any of your home satellite receivers that are on the same home computer network.

With a full functioning remote control with a quick response time, your iPad becomes your new remote.

Two way feedback tells you what your are currently watching, you can setup Guide Favorite Channels and you can enter your favorite sports teams to display in the Sport On Today window.

At this time you can’t stream video to your iPad or delete recordings.

I’ll continue to work with the app and upate this post with any new findings and tips and tricks.

Update:

New in Version 2.0.2

Is it just me or does it seemed a little rushed? Working at DISH Network I follow all the providers few new technology, you have Comcast and TWC, with their huge ole On demand online content portal, but no live streaming, and now we can add, a great app to turn your 500.00 Ipad into a remote control. I guess for someone who doesn’t want their Ipad to do much, although that brings me back to my rushed part, Directv is trying to catch up to the industry because it spent a year with its head in its little corner like it had been bad. I am sure if anyone can get you to stream your recordings and their online content to your ipad its Directv. Oh wait, its been done. If I am going to spend that much on a piece of electronics, might as well get a sling adapter, at least that way you can stream Live tv, recorded DVR’s and online content to your ipad wherever you are. Or you could sit on your couch, and play with your remote, if you like.

I agree with everything that Jason is saying. DIRECTV is a pretty awesome company and the app is undoubtedly out of this world, but I don’t think it’s offering it’s consumers a lick of value. I too have DISH Network with my employee account and I’ve been using the DISH Remote Access app with my Sling Adapter as well and I have unlimited access to my DVR to watch live and pre-recorded content. Not only that but I don’t have to be at home to do so and as long as I’m connected to my 3G network, I’m good to go. Considering everything that Jason has said, I’ll be moving out on my own soon and I wanted to check into other companies and see what I could get for my money’s worth and I came across this site http://besttvforme.com/. It outlines all of the major companies and details their benefits from fees, all the way up to customer service. The best overall company was DISH Network and with that being said, I know I’m going to stick with my DISH.
